Hurricane Ida

Having come to New Orleans from New York City, hurricane season was not something I was used to hearing about or preparing for. When my classmates, professors, and the news began talking about the upcoming hurricane, I was not sure how to prepare or make a final decision on whether I should stay or go home to NYC. After deliberating with my parents, I decided to stay, not knowing what was to come. When winds continued to increase and I lost power, that was when the stress and anxiety began to settle in. Being without power or water was not something I have experienced before and it made me realize how much I take those conveniences for granted. Most importantly, the hurricane taught me the importance of surrounding myself with caring and helpful people. Natural disasters are difficult to deal with, however, they bring people together in unique ways. The day before the hurricane I befriended my neighbor who had also just moved in. She ended up helping me in ways I will be forever gratef
